ShopandScan Rewards Account Review

ShopandScan pays you for your shopping receipts. When you scan them in, you will receive monthly rewards in return. However, overall, there are better ways to monetise your receipts.

What Is ShopandScan?

ShopandScan is a market research survey. The aim is to measure the purchasing of households in the UK. For this, Shopandscan pays its members to scan their shopping receipts.

You can visit the Shopandscan website here.

The ShopandScan survey is owned by Kantar Worldpanel which is based in London. Kantar is a data, insights, and consulting company.

They also own some other market research apps, including Qmee.

Is ShopandScan Legit?

ShopandScan is legit and not a scam. Kantar, ShopandScan’s owner, is a well-established company that has been operating since 1992.

In the UK, Kantar is registered as Kantar UK Limited with the company number 03073845.

ShopandScan also has good reviews on Trustpilot. Its average score is 4.3 out of 5.0. Overall, 68% of users rated ShopandScan as great or excellent.

Shopandscan reviews on Trustpilot

What Is Trustpilot?

Trustpilot is an independent consumer review platform. It is not associated or affiliated with any of the sites mentioned in this post. On Trustpilot, users can anonymously rate and review companies they have used.

Overall, there are over 120 million reviews on Trustpilot. This means you can generally get a good understanding of the legitimacy and customer-friendliness of a company.

Is ShopandScan Safe?

ShopandScan is safe to use. You do not have to pay any money to be a member of the panel. You can also decide to stop at any point if you do not like it.

When you join ShopandScan, your personal data are stored securely under the control of Kantar Worldpanel.

How Does ShopandScan Work?

When you join ShopandScan, you will receive a scanner. Then, you need to scan the barcode of every product you buy including:

  • Who bought the product
  • Which shop you visited
  • How much you spent overall
  • A list of products without a barcode

In return for your efforts, you will receive 1100 points every week. If you take a picture of your receipt, you can also get another 500 points extra every week.

Once you have 10,000 points, you can redeem them for a £10 voucher from a range of different brands. Some of the most notable vouchers are from:

  • Amazon
  • Debenhams
  • New Look
  • Next
  • WH Smith
  • Pizza Hut

How Much Can You Earn with Shopandscan?

As with the other receipt-scanning apps, ShopandScan is no way to great riches. Per week, you can get a maximum of 1600 points. In total, 1600 points are worth £1.60.

Thus, you can earn up to £83.20 per year with Shopandscan.

Per month, this would be around £7. This is more than you can earn with other receipt-scanning apps. (They usually pay around £0.05 per receipt).

However, using ShopandScan is also more effort since you need to physically scan every product.

How to Get a ShopandScan Invitation Code

To join Shopandscan, you need an invitation code. And getting a Shopandscan invitation code can be tricky. The easiest way is to apply at Volunteer4Panels.

If you are successful, you will be sent an invitation code.

Note that it can take months until you hear back from Volunteer4Panels. Whether your application is successful depends on what kind of people the panel needs at the moment.

This takes into account factors such as your location, gender, age, and other factors.

You also need to own or have access to a Windows computer. Mac users are not eligible to join ShopandScan.

What Are the Pros and Cons of ShopandScan?

ShopandScan Rewards Review Pros

  • Pays better than other receipt-scanning apps
  • A way to get free money in your spare time

ShopandScan Rewards Review Cons

  • The website looks like a prehistoric relic
  • Scanning every product is bothersome
  • Only works on Windows computers
  • Need to use a physical scanner rather than a phone app

Alternatives to ShopandScan

The main downside of ShopandScan is that scanning the barcode of every product is tedious. Honestly, I do not have the patience to do it.

If you are like me, or you have another reason not to use ShopandScan, there are good alternatives you can use.

  • Shoppix. An app that pays you for taking pictures of your shopping receipts. No barcode scanning is required. Read more in my Shoppix review
  • Storewards. An app that works like Shoppix. It pays a little better but only accepts a limited number of users
  • Shopmium. An app that gives cashback on supermarket products if you scan the receipt and product barcode. Read more in my Shopmium review
