Shoppix Review 2024: Is This Receipt-scanning App Legit?

Discover how to make money from your receipts in this Shoppix review. If you throw away your shopping receipts without scanning them, you miss out on easy cash.

Shoppix was the first receipt-scanning app I used. I downloaded the app in 2019 and have been using it ever since. My total earnings from the app are £105. This doesn’t sound like much, but it’s all from scanning shopping receipts. If you want to make money with Shoppix too, read my review below.

What Is Shoppix?

Shoppix is a receipt-scanning app for Android and iOS phones. It’s free to use, and you’ll receive cashback when you scan your shopping receipts. Short surveys about your shopping experience also help you earn more.

The Shoppix app launched in the UK in 2017 and belongs to Kantar UK LTD, trading as Kantar Worldpanel. Kantar is the world’s leading data, insights, and consulting company. It also owns several other market research apps, such as ShopandScan.

Is Shoppix Legit?

Shoppix is a legit app and not a scam. I have been using the app for a few years and cashed out a fair amount of times. You can see my payout proof further down in this Shoppix review.

Kantar, ShopandScan’s owner, is a well-established company operating since 1992. In the UK, Kantar is registered as Kantar UK Limited with the company number 03073845. Kantar has 25,000 employees and 100 million survey respondents.

Shoppix is also on Trustpilot. However, contrary to my experiences with the app, users do not seem to like it. The app has an average score of 2.7 out of 5.0. Overall, 63% of users rated the app as poor or bad.

Many users report payout problems. Personally, I never had any issues with receiving my money. I always cash out using PayPal. I think the issue lies with the Amazon vouchers.

How Does Shoppix Work?

Shoppix is one of the best receipt-scanning apps. It is free to download and use. You scan receipts with the Shoppix app and get tokens, which you can exchange for vouchers or cash.

Signing up only takes a couple of minutes. You need a smartphone to install the app and an email address to sign up. You can download Shoppix from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.

Follow the sign-up process and enter your email address and password. You must complete a short profile before you can start scanning receipts. As a reward, you will get your first tokens and a scratch card.

How Can You Make Money on Shoppix?

1. Scanning Paper Receipts

Once signed up, you can scan your receipts. Give Shoppix access to your camera and take a picture of your receipt. Shoppix usually approves receipts instantly, but sometimes, it can take a day or two. A receipt counts as valid if it shows:

• The shop/service provider
• Date (which must be within the last seven days)
• The individual items or services paid for and the total price paid

When your receipt becomes approved, you earn 25 tokens. You can get 5 bonus tokens if you snap your receipt on the day of the purchase. You can snap up to 30 receipts per week. If you scan in more, you won’t receive tokens.

2. Forwarding Online Receipts

Apart from paper receipts, you can also get tokens for your online shopping receipts. There are two ways you can do this:

• Give Shoppix access to your email inbox
• Forward electronic receipts to your Shoppix email address

Technically, giving Shoppix access to your inbox should be safe, but I recommend using the second option.

If you want to forward your online shopping receipts to Shoppix, click through the setup in the app. You can choose from different email address names. All you need to do is forward your receipts to that email address.

3. Completing Surveys

Surveys are an additional way to make money with Shoppix. Shoppix surveys work differently from those on survey sites. Shoppix doesn’t screen you out; all surveys are related to your purchase decisions.

Typically, the surveys are short and take only a minute to complete. You can earn 10-50 tokens per survey, and you also get a bonus scratch card.

4. Moving up Shelves

Shelves are the level system of Shoppix. Every month, you can see four shopping bags on the app’s home screen. These bags represent the weeks of the month.

You need to scan at least one receipt every week to get all bags to light up. If you do this, you move up a shelf (i.e. level up). Every time you move up to a new shelf, you earn bonus scratch cards.

5. Using Scratch Cards

You can earn scratch cards for completing surveys and moving up shelves. Shoppix does not state the maximum amount of tokens you can win. However, since using the Shoppix app, I have won 10, 20, and 100 tokens on occasion.

Whether your scratch card is a winner or not, you get an entry into the prize draw.

6. Taking Part in Prize Draws

Prize draws take place every Monday at 8 AM UK time. You enter automatically if you have used a scratch card in the seven days before the prize draw. The prices are:

• 2x 10,000 tokens (roughly £15)
• 8x 2,000 tokens (roughly £3)

In all the years of using Shoppix, I have never won the prize draws.

How Can You Cash out on Shoppix?

You can cash out once you have collected at least 3200 tokens. You get better conversion rates the more you save.

You can choose from the following payout options:

• Amazon
• iTunes
• Love2Shop
• PayPal

When you want to redeem your tokens, choose the voucher you like and tap “redeem”. I always take PayPal cash and go with the minimum amount.

This may not be the savvy choice, but it will take me around three months to accumulate enough tokens. I also do not like leaving cash in an app.

You then get an email with an order number. Following this, your voucher should arrive in your inbox within 48 hours. It contains instructions for redeeming it on the website of your choice. If you choose a PayPal voucher, you get your cash directly.

What Receipts Does Shoppix Accept?

What I like about Shoppix is that they accept almost every receipt. If unsure, you can just snap your receipt and see whether it becomes approved. Regarding the type of receipts accepted, Shoppix states the following:

“Shoppix will allow you to snap or forward most itemised receipts – they can be receipts from restaurants, cafes, shops etc. Please note we do not approve receipts for travel, ticketing, hotels or financial services.”

Pros and Cons of Shoppix

Pros

• Shoppix enables you to earn money from shopping receipts
• Receipts are usually approved promptly
• There are extra ways to earn tokens
• Receipts are hardly ever rejected (which is common with other receipt cashback apps)
• You can store your receipts in the app, which may be helpful if you need to refer to them later
• Your anonymised data help shape and influence retailers

Cons

• The Trustpilot reviews are not exactly stellar
• You do not get your cash instantly when you cash out
• Shoppix only works on smartphones
• You can only submit one receipt per store per day

Is Shoppix Closing?

Shoppix is not closing. Recently, some users received an email informing them of their account termination. Yet the app still works. It seems Shoppix has just become more selective about what data it needs. All users whose accounts were closed had the opportunity to cash out their tokens.

What Does Shoppix Do with Your Receipts?

Shoppix is a market research app and one of the best ways to make money with cashback. Brands want to know about your shopping behaviour, including what you buy and why.

Shoppix makes money collecting data and forwarding these (anonymised) to brands. Brands can use these data to tailor their products and advertisements to increase sales.

How Much Can You Earn with Shoppix?

Shoppix is not going to make you rich. One receipt is worth about £0.05, and you can get tokens for up to 30 weekly receipts.

The absolute maximum is probably about £3 per week (unless you win the prize draw). You can also stack Shoppix with other receipt apps, such as Storewards.

How Many Tokens Do I Need on Shoppix?

To cash out, you need a minimum of 3200 tokens. One receipt gives you 30 tokens, so you must scan 107 receipts. However, there are other ways to add tokens, and you will likely win some from the scratchcards. Thus, you need fewer receipts to reach the cashout threshold.

Do You Have a Shoppix Friend Referral Code?

Unfortunately, Shoppix closed its friend referral scheme. Existing referral codes or invitation codes do not work any longer. I will update this Shoppix review if the program re-opens.

Shoppix Amazon Voucher Not Working – Solutions

The most commonly reported problem with Shoppix is that the Amazon vouchers do not work. This is why I recommend to cash out via PayPal. However, if it is already too late and you have chosen Amazon vouchers, you can still get your voucher.

Contact Shoppix support (help@shoppixapp.com). State your account details and explain the problem you are having. I only had to contact customer support once during my time with Shoppix, and they were fast and helpful.

Shoppix App Review Summary

Shoppix is a receipt cashback app. You can earn real money by snapping your shopping receipts. It is a legit app and I never had any issues with it (although the Trustpilot reviews are mostly negative).

On Shoppix, one receipt is worth around £0.05, and the maximum limit per week is 30 receipts. You can also earn money (tokens) from other tasks, such as scratch cards and surveys.

The app because it is free, and there is no commitment, so you can easily try Shoppix yourself.
