Background

Swagbucks is a free online membership rewards site. Swagbucks was founded in 2005 and belongs to Prodege. On Swagbucks, you can get paid for completing tasks, including surveys. It is one of the most popular GPT sites, with over 20 million members. Read more in my Swagbucks review.

Freecash is a similar site with identical purposes. Founded in 2020, the website Freecash.com is operated by Almedia GmbH. It is also one of the bigger reward sites. Read more in my Freecash review.

Swagbucks is the older and more established site. But does this mean the site is better?

User Ratings

Swagbucks has an average rating of 4.2 out of 5.0. Overall, 82% of users gave Swagbucks the highest scores, great or excellent. Freecash has an average score of 4.6 out of 5.0. Overall, 92% of users rated the website as great or excellent.

Freecash has higher user ratings, beating Swagbucks by 0.4 points.

What Is Trustpilot?

Trustpilot is an independent consumer review platform. It has no affiliation with the sites mentioned in this post. On Trustpilot, users can anonymously rate and review companies they have used.

Overall, there are over 150 million reviews on Trustpilot. You can generally get a good understanding of the legitimacy and customer-friendliness of a company.

User Interface

Both sites have a web platform and an app for Android and IOS. Swagbucks has a light theme, whereas Freecash appears dark. The themes make the sites look different, but their navigation is similar. Both sites have a user-friendly layout and are easy to use.

The biggest difference is that Swagbuck uses its own currency, SB. On Freecash, you can see how much you’ll earn in dollars. It’s much easier to see what you get rather than having to convert currencies.

Swagbuck has a greater variety of offers. It also has extra features such as a search engine and browser extension.

Earning Potential

Two factors determine the earning potential of a GPT site:

  • the number of offers and
  • how well an offer is paid (pay rate)

Number of Offers on Swagbucks and Freecash

The number of offers on GPT sites changes often. For this comparison, I counted the offers on both sites on the same day. Depending on when you check, you’ll likely see more or fewer offers than me.

There are also a few other caveats:

  • Both sites list the same offer in multiple categories. I only counted them once.
  • Freecash even lists the same offer multiple times in the same category. This makes it look like the site has more offers than it does.
  • Some offers are only for Android or IOS devices. You can’t complete all offers unless you have two phones.
  • Swagbucks is partnered with third-party offerwalls. I didn’t include these offers.

As you can see from the table, Freecash has more offers than Swagbucks.

Pay Rates on Swagbucks and Freecash

Pay rates are hard to compare because both sites have different offers. There isn’t much overlap. Some offers are the same, but the tasks you need to do vary.

In the table below, I compare identical offers from both sites:

As you can see, there is no clear winner. For some offers, Swagbucks is better, but for others, it pays worse.

Cashing out

Swagbucks has a payout threshold of $1 for Amazon vouchers and $5 for PayPal. With Freecash, you can cash out once you have at least $0.50. You’ll only get cryptocurrencies for this amount. For PayPal, you need at least $5. In terms of options, Swagbucks offers a choice of five gift cards. With Freecash, you have over 20 options.

Freecash offers more options and has the same minimum amount for PayPal cashout. While Freecash wins on paper, if you choose PayPal, there is no difference.

Sign-up Bonus and Referral Scheme

Swagbucks doesn’t have a regular sign-up bonus. They used to have a $3-$10 reward, but it is no longer active.

With Freecash’s sign-up bonus, you can get $0.05-$250. The amount is random but will likely be towards the lower end of the range. I referred over 1000 people to Freecash, and only one person got $250. (Though most people don’t tell me how much they got.)

When referring a friend to Swagbucks, you get $0.30 and 10% of their earnings. Freecash’s friend referral program gives you 5-30% of your friend’s earnings. Getting 30% is difficult; 10% is a more realistic maximum.

Since Swagbucks no longer offers a sign-up bonus, Freecash wins in this category. The referral schemes are similar. However, with Freecash, you can get more or less depending on your activity.

Swagbuck vs Freecash Comparison Summary

Swagbucks and Freecash are both solid GPT sites. You can make money with either site. The outcome of this comparison is as follows:

  • Background: Swagbucks
  • User ratings: Freecash
  • User interface: Freecash
  • Variety of offers: Swagbucks
  • Earning potential: Tie
  • Cashing out: Freecash
  • Sign-up bonus and referral scheme: Freecash

Freecash wins more categories. It is also my preferred site. However, Swagbucks isn’t bad either. If you’re unsure, you can join both sites and try them.
