Matched betting with gubbed accounts is difficult. People often think their matched betting career ends after receiving an email with important account information.

In reality, it just requires you to change a little. When I was more active as a matched bettor, I still averaged £1000 per month despite 20 account restrictions (gubbings). And this is nowhere near the limit.

What Does Gubbed Mean?

In matched betting, people refer to restricted accounts as “gubbed”. You cannot participate in a bookmaker’s promotions, and your stake may be limited. The term gub is Scottish and means halting something from coming out of someone’s mouth.

Does Being Gubbed Affect Matched Betting Profits?

You can still make money when your accounts are restricted. Look at the graph from my matched betting income report outlining my profits vs gubbings. Despite becoming increasingly restricted, my profits stayed the same.

How to Do Matched Betting with Gubbed Accounts

1. Arbitrage Betting

Placing the occasional arb here and there is fine. If you target arbs, bookmakers will identify you as a matched bettor and close your account. Yet, some accounts are so useless that arbing them is the only way to profit from them.

You can set up a filter on Outplayed specific to arbs (see image). You have to be quick with arbs (similar to price boosts).

Which Bookmaker Accounts Are Safe to Arb?

Few accounts are so useless that they have no use other than arbs. I recommend using the Outplayed Daily Offer list to find them. Look at all offers and filter for the bookmaker you consider arbing. Do not arb if you find good offers.

Next, check whether the bookmaker offers extra places. Go to the bookmaker’s promotion page or use the Outplayed Extra Place Matcher. Extra places are profitable, so do not arb if the bookmaker offers them.

Lastly, check whether the bookmaker has links to a bookmaker that you use. For example, arbing Totesport may cost your Betfred account. In summary, you can arb accounts that do not:

  • Have any decent reload offers
  • Offer extra places
  • Have connections to your existing accounts

2. Each-way Arbitrage Betting

Each-way arbs are safer than arbing and the only type of arb I use. An each-way bet is a bet where you bet on a horse to win or place. To find each-way arbs, I use Outplayed’s each-way matcher.

With each-way arbs, you do not arb the win part of the bet, making it less obvious to bookmakers. Instead, you arb the place market.

3. Extra Places

Despite being a promotion, you can do extra places even if you are gubbed. The only exceptions are BetVictor and BoyleSports.

You can find close matches using Outplayed’s Extra Place Matcher. The Extra Place Matcher makes it easy to understand which bets you need to place. Look for matches with less than £1 qualifying loss per £10.

4. Best Odds Guaranteed Offers

Best odds guaranteed (BOG) means the bookmaker pays for a horse’s highest odds during a race, even if you placed your bets at lower odds. You may still be eligible for BOGs with certain bookmakers. BOGs are not a way to make huge profits, but you will make some money.

Firstly, you back a horse and hope for the best. Secondly, you place your bets and observe the horse’s odds. You can also adjust your lay bet to lock in a profit.

To find a suitable horse for BOG offers, you can use Outplayed’s Oddsmatcher. BOGs are usually small (although you may get a big hit). I recommend 98%+ matches.

5. Matched Betting Services

There are two main matched betting service providers, Outplayed and OddsMonkey. (Read more in my Outplayed vs OddsMonkey comparison.)

  • If you are with OddsMonkey and feel stuck, switch to Outplayed. Outplayed has more reload offers, which may help you identify new sources of profit.
  • If you are currently stuck with Outplayed, try switching to OddsMonkey. OddsMonkey has fewer reload offers but excels when it comes to horse racing.

I recommend taking the one week for £1 trial offer. This way, you can assess your options without committing. Get your Outplayed free trial here, and your OddsMonkey trial here.

6. Existing Offers

There may be offers you can still do. Read your gubbing email to determine which offers you are still eligible for. Some bookmakers will only part-gub you.

7. Getting Ungubbed

Once bookmakers gub you, they will not likely lift your account restrictions. However, sometimes it happens! Usually, mug betting to lift your restrictions will not work unless you place many high-value bets on poor matches. With this approach, the initial investment does not outweigh the benefits.

It’s worth checking your gubbed accounts to see if you can see promotions. If you can, this may be a sign that you are ungubbed. You could attempt an offer with that bookmaker.

8. Low-Risk Casino Offers

Many bookmakers only restrict you from their sportsbooks, leaving you eligible for casino offers.

9. New Sign-ups

I bet you still have plenty of sign-ups left! You may have exhausted all sign-up offers with the major bookmakers, but there are still plenty more. I have over 90 accounts and still do new sign-ups.

Even with limited options, you should be careful who you sign up with. If you do not find a bookmaker trustworthy, it is best to stay away.

10. Diversification

The fewer accounts you have, the more you must make from unrestricted ones. There are probably offers that you ignored in the past. I recommend looking at the Outplayed Daily Offer List and completing each offer at least once.

How to Prevent Gubbings

The best way to profit from matched betting is not getting gubbed. If you experience gubbing, work to prevent gubbings from your active accounts. You can do this by:

  • Placing occasional mug bets
  • Betting only on big events
  • Avoiding arbitrages (arbs)
  • Not doing every offer a bookmaker offers

If you are doing matched betting from abroad, you may be at increased risk of becoming restricted. You must be more cautious than matched bettors in the UK.

What to Do if You Are Stake Restricted

If you are stake restricted with a bookmaker, it is still not the end. You can look for guaranteed profit events or place multiple smaller bets.

If this does not work, I recommend closing the account and requesting that your details be deleted. Wait a few years, and you can sign up again. New bookmakers appear frequently, so you can open new accounts while you wait.

You can also look for alternatives to matched betting to make money from other side hustles.

Matched Betting with Gubbed Accounts Summary

Receiving a gubbing email does not end your matched-betting career. Plenty of opportunities exist to make money from matched betting without free bets. You can make money in the following ways:

  1. Arbs (avoid as much as possible)
  2. Eachway arbs
  3. Extra places
  4. BOG offers
  5. Matched betting service
  6. Existing account offers
  7. Getting ungubbed
  8. Low-risk casino
  9. New sign-ups
  10. Diversification

I do not recommend using multiple betting accounts, but this would be another way to profit.
