This Nectar Card review covers everything about Sainsbury’s customer loyalty program. How good is it? And what can you do with a Nectar Card?

Sainsbury’s is my nearest supermarket, so I use the Nectar program regularly. I’m familiar with the ins and outs; my opinion is below.

Sainsbury’s Nectar Card

Nectar is Sainsbury’s customer rewards program. It’s worth joining if you shop at Sainsbury’s or its partners. The biggest advantage is that you can get points on fuel.

What Is Sainsbury’s Nectar Card?

Nectar is Sainsbury’s customer loyalty program. Customers signed up to the scheme can earn points when they shop at Sainsbury’s or its partners. You can redeem these points for discounts and rewards. They help customers save money when shopping at Sainsbury’s.

Nectar launched in 2002 and merged the loyalty schemes of Sainsbury’s, BP, Barclaycard, and Debenhams. The Nectar scheme is operated by Nectar 360 Limited, which belongs to Sainsbury’s. Today, the Nectar scheme has 18 million users in the UK.

How Does the Nectar Loyalty Card Work?

When you sign up to Nectar, you get points each time you shop. To do so, you must scan your Nectar card or the mobile app at the checkout. The app works for Android and IOS phones.

Once you have enough points, you can use them to pay for your shopping. At the till, you will have the option to pay with your Nectar card. If you choose it, you can pay with your points.

Additionally, you can get discounts on specific items. You can find these discounts in the stores next to the product price tags.

What Are Nectar Prices at Sainsbury’s?

Nectar prices are discounts for customers participating in the Nectar scheme. Nectar prices are next to a product’s price tag on the shelf. You can also see them on Sainsbury’s website under “Offers”. The offers change every week, but here are some examples:

ProductRegular PriceNectar Price
Tropicana Pure Smooth Orange Fruit Juice 900ml£3.25£2.00
Goodfella’s Stonebaked Thin Margherita Pizza 345g£3.00£1.50
Jammie Dodgers Biscuits Minis x6£1.25£0.95
Sainsbury’s Strawberries 250g£1.65£1.25

As you can see, you can get good discounts with a Nectar Card. The only disadvantage is that the product selection is random.

How Can You Get a Sainsbury’s Nectar Card?

There are three ways to get your hands on a Nectar card. You can:

  • Sign up online and wait for your card
  • Fill in the registration form in-store and start using your card straight away
  • Download the app and follow the instructions to order a card or scan the app

How Do Nectar Points Work?

Nectar Points are the reward you get for scanning your Nectar Card or mobile app. For each £1 you spend, you will get 1 Nectar Point. When redeeming your Nectar Points, 1 point is worth £0.05. This equals a cashback rate of 0.5%.

You can spend Nectar Points in blocks of 500. In total, 500 points are worth £2.50. This means £2.50 is the minimum spending threshold.

How Long Do Sainsbury’s Nectar Points Last?

Nectar Points do not have an expiry date. You can theoretically accumulate them forever. However, Nectar closes your account if you do not scan your card or app for 12 months. You also lose your points.

How Can You Redeem Nectar Points?

The easiest way to redeem your Nectar Points is at Sainsbury’s checkouts. You will see the option to pay with your card at the tills. Scan your Nectar Card or the mobile app to pay for your shopping.

You can also redeem your Nectar Points at Nectar partners. These include Sky, eBay, Argos, and other retailers. Nectar also recently partnered with Avios.
