What Is Tesco Clubcard?

Tesco Clubcard is Tesco’s customer loyalty program. With it, you can collect points when you shop. Then, you can use these points to get discounts and rewards.

The Clubcard app is called “Tesco Grocery & Clubcard”. This app was introduced in April 2023 and replaces the old app. Customers can keep all the points they accumulated using the old app.

Tesco Clubcard was introduced in the UK in 1995 and the scheme is run by the marketing company Dunnhumby. In 2021, 20 million people in the UK were using the loyalty scheme.

How Does a Tesco Clubcard Work?

If you join the Clubcard scheme, you can scan your card or the mobile app. You will then get points for your shopping.

These points can be exchanged for vouchers that offer discounts on your shopping. Alternatively, you can use your points to get discounts at Tesco Rewards partners.

You can also get special offers reserved for Clubcard members. This is known as “Clubcard price”. If you buy a product that has a Clubcard price, you will pay a reduced price just by scanning your card or app.

How Many Clubcard Points per Pound Do You Get at Tesco?

You get £0.01 for every pound you spend at Tesco. Each point is worth £0.01 when you spend it at Tesco. Thus, you would need 1000 points to get £10 off your spending.

This would translate to a cashback rate of 1%.

You can get more for your points if you spend them with a Rewards Partner. Doing this doubles or triples your points, meaning you would get 2%-3%.

Note if you collect Clubcard points when you fill up your car, you will get one point for every litre of fuel.

How Can You Collect Clubcard Points?

You can collect Tesco Clubcard points by scanning your Clubcard or the mobile app when you shop at Tesco. Tesco Bank customers also get points when they pay with their bank card.

Clubcard points are given both for in-store and online shopping at Tesco.

You can also get points when you buy fuel at Tesco petrol stations.

How Can You Cash in Your Clubcard Points?

Vouchers

You can exchange your Tesco Clubcard points for vouchers. To do so, you need to:

• Sign in to the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app or go to ‘My Clubcard account’ online
• Select the button to turn your Clubcard points into vouchers
• Select ‘Request vouchers’
• Wati for the vouchers to appear in your Clubcard account

If you do not have access to a phone or a computer, you can also get your vouchers through the post. Tesco will send you a quarterly statement that will contain your vouchers.

The minimum amount of points needed to get a voucher is 150 points. Vouchers are valid for two years.

Reward Partners

Another way to spend your Clubcard points is through Tesco Reward Partners. You can exchange your vouchers directly in the app or in your online account.

Spending your Clubcard points with a Reward Partner may double or triple your points. This means you can get more value out of your points this way.

However, you are also bound to the partner you chose and cannot spend your points elsewhere anymore.

Is a Tesco Clubcard Free?

Getting a Tesco Clubcard and using it is completely free.

If you want, you can subscribe to Tesco Clubcard Plus. This is completely optional and costs £7.99 a month.

Tesco Clubcard Plus is a subscription that gives you 10% off your shopping twice a month in exchange for a fixed monthly price.

Is Tesco Clubcard Plus Worth It?

As stated above, with Tesco Clubcard Plus you can get 10% off your in-store shopping twice a month. To get this deal, you need to pay £7.99 per month.

Thus, Tesco Clubcard Plus is worth it for you if your discount exceeds £7.99 in a month. This means that you need to get on average at least £4.00 off each time.

To get this discount, you need to spend at least £40 on eligible items (food).

Consequently, a Tesco Clubcard is worth it if you spend more than £40 in-store at Tesco twice a month.

Note that Tesco Clubcard Plus subscribers also get exclusive deals and offers. As the value of this varies from person to person, I have not taken it into account for this calculation.

Tesco Clubcard is also one of the best customer loyalty programs in the UK.

Can You Use Clubcard Plus Online?

Tesco Clubcard Plus cannot be used online. The discount is only available if you stop in-store at Tesco.

Equally, you cannot get the Clubcard Plus discount with the card. It is only available through the Tesco mobile app.
