UserTesting overview.

What Is UserTesting?

UserTesting enables companies to find people to test their websites. These testers, in turn, get paid for their efforts. You can sign up as a tester and earn money to complete tests.

UserTesting was founded by Dave Garr and Darrell Benatar in 1999. The company is based in the US and makes all payments in dollars.

Who Is Eligble to Join UserTesting?

Although UserTesting is a US site, it accepts users from other countries, including the UK. You must also be 18 or older and have access to a computer/laptop or a mobile phone with a microphone. To get paid, you need a PayPal address.

While anyone fitting these criteria can sign up, accepted testers must pass a test. You do not need specific skills, but attention to detail is helpful.

Is UserTesting Legit?

UserTesting is legit and not a scam. UserTesting is a US company based in San Francisco. There is not much information about the company online, but on Trustpilot, its average score is 4.3 out of 5.0. Overall, 82% of reviews are great or excellent.

UserTesting reviews on Trustpilot

What Is Trustpilot?

Trustpilot is an independent consumer review platform. It has no affiliation with the sites mentioned in this post. On Trustpilot, users can anonymously rate and review companies they have used.

Overall, there are over 150 million reviews on Trustpilot. You can generally get a good understanding of the legitimacy and customer-friendliness of a company.

How Does UserTesting Work?

UserTesting is free to use for testers. Sign up, complete screening questions, and get matched with suitable tasks. Then, share your perspective and get paid. Clients of UserTesting pay UserTesting to find testers for them. Testing helps them improve their products and services.

How Can You Sign up to UserTesting?

You can sign up to UserTesting by clicking or tapping “Get paid to test”. UserTesting needs a few details, including your:

  • First and last name
  • Email address
  • Postal address

Once signed up, you must complete a quick practice test. If you pass, you can start earning money straight away.

How Can You Make Money on UserTesting?

You can make money on UserTesting by completing the tasks listed on the site. There are many projects, but you will not be eligible for all. Check the task description to find out if it is relevant to you. A quick screening happens before the test to see if you match the assignment.

During the test, you need to provide feedback about your task on the target website. This may include web searching. You need to record yourself or describe what you are doing.

How Can You Get Paid on UserTesting?

UserTesting pays all users in US dollars sent to their PayPal account. Testers get paid within seven days of completing a test. You do not have to do anything to get your money. Payments are processed automatically.

My Experience With UserTesting

I signed up to UserTesting in 2023. In the assessment test, I had to navigate the UserTesting support page and look up a coffee shop near me. Both were easy tasks; all I had to do was to describe my thought process.

Yet, after being approved, I had no tests to take:

UserTesting available tests

Without completing tests, you can’t make money from UserTesting. It took four weeks for the first test to become available. This was pretty frustrating. Then, two tests appeared in my dashboard, yet I was promptly screened out.

While my initial experience was poor, after two months, more tests showed up for me.

How Much Money Can You Make With UserTesting?

Typically, tests last between 10 and 20 minutes and pay between $10 and $60. The average test pays $10. If you do well, you might also get a small bonus.

While the pay is good, the major limitation is the tests you can do. There are many tests, but you need specific qualifications or experience for most. You can expect to find one or two daily tests you qualify for. UserTesting only pays to PayPal and in dollars. If you use PayPal to convert your money, you pay conversion fees.

Pros and Cons of UserTesting

UserTesting.com Review Summary

UserTesting is a platform that connects website owners to testers. Testers can make money by testing websites and performing simple tasks. In simple terms, it is a work-from-home job anyone can start.
