Lyrical Host Review 2024: My Experience After 3 Years

This Lyrical Host review covers my experience with this UK-based web host. Hosting can be a minefield, and a bad host can ruin your blog and business. Your site could be down during crucial times, leaving you with unreadable support documents or autoresponders.

I have been with Lyrical Host since 2021. I started on the Tiny plan before I upgraded to Mighty in 2022. Below are my experiences, including the pros and cons.

What Is Lyrical Host?

Lyrical Host is a web hosting. Web hosting means offering facilities to create, maintain, and store a website. Hosting is one of the essentials if you want to run a website. Lyrical Host is also the host I use for most of my sites.

Apart from web hosting, Lyrical Host also offers:

• Stock images
• Courses

Lyrical Host was founded in the UK by Jenni Brown and Joseph Tansley in 2017. They aim to make web hosting different, supportive, and non-judgmental.

Is Lyrical Host Legit?

Lyrical Host is legit and not a scam. It is a registered UK company named Tansley Digital Limited. On Trustpilot, Lyrical Host has great reviews. Its average score is 4.8 out of 5.0, with 98% of users giving Lyrical Host the highest score.

Lyrical Host offers three plans: Tiny, Mighty, and Boss. The prices are as follows:

I am on the annual Mighty plan.

With all plans, you get a discount of up to 17% if you commit to a longer period. If you go for the maximum number of blogs and pay for two years, you would pay about £10 per blog per year. Most people do not need that many websites. Yet, even the smaller plans offer huge savings potential if you pay for a longer period.

All plans include a free SSL certificate, malware scanning, and other benefits.

Lyrical Host Pros

1. Great Customer Service

Lyrical Host offers great customer support. You can open a support ticket, and Lyrical Host will solve your problem. This extends beyond the support you usually expect from a web host.

You can ask for help with technical problems, but they also do easier things that other hosts wouldn’t. For example, they can add code to your header or decipher cryptical error messages.

2. Same Renewal Prices

Most hosts offer cheap rates to new customers but become expensive when you renew. Lyrical Host does not do this. The price you sign up for is the same as your renewal price. You always pay the same price no matter how long you stay with them. This gives long-term customers an advantage since they pay below-market prices.

3. Super Fast Hosting

My page loading speed increased after changing to Lyrical Host. Lyrical Host says they are faster due to their SSD webspace powered by Samsung SSD.

With Lyrical Host, you also have a contact delivery network (CDN) with nodes around the globe. Visitors from abroad can have a fast experience because the site loads locally.

4. Community

Another outstanding part of Lyrical Host is the community. Lyrical Host has a Facebook group for members. Members can ask non-technical questions, connect with other bloggers, and support each other. There are also free residencies with external experts.

5. Ready to Go Viral

Blogs hosted by Lyrical Host are “ready to go viral.” Your blog won’t be down if you exceed your monthly bandwidth. Instead, Lyrical Host adapts and gives you more power at no extra cost. You can purchase a bandwidth add-on or upgrade your plan if you regularly exceed your limit.

6. Resources

Lyrical Host offers free resources to its members, for example:

Their library has over 110 freebies. These range from how-to guides to email templates and stock images. In addition, Lyrical Host regularly sends out newsletters with free stock images. And their images are gorgeous. I use them for social media posts, Pinterest pins, or email newsletters.

7. Daily Backups

Before I was with Lyrical Hosts, I did my own backups. It’s not difficult; you only need a free plugin and web space to store your backups. I used a free Dropbox account for this.

However, having a host that does this automatically is nice. Because backups are daily, I never need to worry about losing anything. Plus, my Dropbox space is free for other stuff.

8. Helps Protect the Environment

Lyrical Host plants five trees on your anniversary with them. The longer you stay, the more trees you get. The upper limit is 50 trees per customer. Lyrical Hosts works with Trees for the Future and One Tree Planted. Based on their sustainability policy, they also support coral reefs through Reef Check.

9. Charity Donations

Lyrical Host also supports other causes. Currently, they support Kurandza, a non-profit social enterprise. It invests in the future of women and girls in Mozambique.

Cons of Using Lyrical Host

1. No Tech Support Live Chat

Lyrical Host has a live chat for sales, but there is none for technical support. Instead, you have to raise a ticket, which is like emailing. The support usually responds within a day. However, when you have an urgent issue, you want immediate help.

I sometimes refresh the support page every second, wondering if they have responded. I’d prefer a live chat that shows your position in the queue and how long the waiting time is.

2. Confusing Website Navigation

I get lost so often on the Lyrical dashboard! Maybe it’s just me, but I feel it is easier to raise a ticket. Then, I can ask for something rather than figure out how to navigate where I want to go. It’s okay because I don’t log into my account often. Yet, I’d still prefer a more user-friendly site.

3. Worse Affiliate Program vs Other Hosts

You can earn up to £80 for each referral with Lyrical Host’s Affiliate program. If someone uses your link and buys a hosting plan or stock images, you earn a percentage of their spending.

Most people only buy a Tiny plan, so the commission is £20. I earn much less from this compared to when I was with Bluehost. Buehost pays up to $100, and the highest hosting programs pay $200 and more. It makes more sense to recommend these web hosting companies to earn money.

4. Sometimes Slow Webmail

Buying a hosting plan with Lyrical Host gives you a free email address and webmail dashboard. The webmail app is simple and sometimes slow. I sometimes have to send an email twice because the loading time is too long.

You can avoid this issue by syncing your Lyrical Host email address with Gmail. You can then send and receive emails from your domain like ordinary Gmail emails. Yet, it would be great to have the design of Lyrical Host with the functionalities of Gmail.

Why Did I choose Lyrical Host?

After problems with my previous host, I was looking for a new blog host. Many users in blogging groups recommended Lyrical Host. Lyrical Host is more expensive than budget hosts but I liked the features and support. Thus, I switched to Lyrical Host. I think it’s the best host for a small-to-mid-sized blog.

How to Start a Blog With Lyrical Host

1. Migrating to Lyrical Host

If you have an existing website, you can migrate to Lyrical Host. Select an appointment, and the Lyrical Host team will migrate your site for free. When I migrated from Bluehost to Lyrical Host, I was so nervous. Yet there was no need to because Lyrical Host did everything.

The migration takes about 2.5 hours. Click on “Book a Migration” in the top menu, scroll down and select a day and time that suits you.

Booking a migration is free; you can book even if you are not ready to pay. You need to pay 24 hours before your appointment. During your appointment, you do not need to do much. The Lyrical Host team will contact you to confirm your details, and that’s it. They will then let you know when your migration is complete.

2. Starting a New Blog With Lyrical Host

If you do not have a website, you can start a new one when you join Lyrical Host. When I started MyMoneyYard with Bluehost, the was process confusing and nerve-wracking.

Starting a new blog with Lyrical Host (my second and third blogs) was much easier. Lyrical Host is a WordPress-only platform, and WordPress is already pre-installed. If you have problems, you can raise a ticket, and the support team will help.

Other Features

1. Stock Images

Lyrical Host members get free stock images monthly, but some are available to buy. I use their stock photos for social media, Pinterest pins, and blog images. For example, the background image on my homepage is from Lyrical Host.

2. Domain Names

A domain name is the address of your website. Lyrical Host is slightly more expensive for domain names compared to Namecheap. For MyMoneyYard, I pay £12.61 per year with Namecheap. With Lyrical Host, I’d pay £12.99.

I prefer Lyrical Host’s service, so I’ve meant to transfer my domain names for a while. Yet, I struggle to decide which ones to sell and which ones to move.

3. Courses for Bloggers

Lyrical Host also offers several courses for bloggers. These teach you SEO and help you to improve your website speed. Personally, I haven’t taken any courses from Lyrical Host, but they exist.

Alternatives to Lyrical Host

If you don’t want to use Lyrical Host, there are alternatives:

• Bluehost. Bluehost was my first host. Their initial pricing is cheap and great for beginners. Yet, the support and site speed are lacking.
• SiteGround. SiteGround is another budget host for bloggers. Their hosting service has the same benefits and drawbacks as Bluehost.
• Cloudways. Many large website owners recommend Cloudways. It’s fast but expensive.

Lyrical Host Review for WordPress Summary

Website hosting with Lyrical Host has many advantages, including:

• Super fast hosting
• Amazing community
• Ready to go viral
• Lots of resources
• Daily backups
• Helps protect the environment
